Students Show Compassion for Children of the World Through Art

Honeoye Falls - Lima Middle and High School art students, under the direction of art teachers Bonnie Foster and Kelly Recktenwald, had the wonderful opportunity to work on the Memory Project, a unique initiative in which art students create original portraits for children in other countries who have been abandoned, orphaned, abused, or neglected.

To do this, the students receive photographs of children who are waiting for portraits, and then work in their art classrooms to create the portraits. Once finished, the portraits are delivered to the children, and the children are then invited to create drawings or write letters to send back to the art students.

“The portraits were recently delivered to orphans in Ecuador and in response, our students received photographs of the children holding their special portraits,” said teacher Kelly Recktenwald. “It was a very rewarding experience to see how students can support others and inspire love through their artistic talents.”

A special thank you goes to the HF-L Middle School and High School PTAs for funding this exceptional project.
