Student Musicians Rate Superior at Virginia Beach Band Competition

Under the direction of instrumental music teachers, Mark Borden and Andrew Vetter, the Honeoye Falls – Lima High School fared well at this year’s Virginia Beach Band Competition, with the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble placing first in their divisions with ratings of “Superior.”  The Jazz and Wind Ensembles, with their overall first place awards, combined to win the Sweepstakes Award, recognizing the top instrumental school at the festival.

Section awards were presented to the Wind Ensemble Clarinets, Jazz Ensemble Reeds and Jazz Ensemble Rhythm section.  Outstanding Soloist awards were received by students Kevin McNamara, Pete Richter, Shane McIntyre, Skylar Sarkis, Carter Middleton and Ian Ooi.

“Our students are to be commended for their outstanding musical talent,” said Dr. Michelle Kavanaugh, Superintendent of Schools.  “We take pride in their achievements and the hard work that brought them so many honors at this festival.”
