"Walk to the Moon" Challenge Gets Principal Mr. McCarthy Into Sticky Situation

In February, the students at the Manor Intermediate School began an endeavor – to walk a distance equivalent to the distance from the earth to the moon.  Students voted on what their reward would be, should they go the distance.  The results were not exactly what Principal Mr. McCarthy had in mind - he would be duct taped to the wall on the last day of school.  After months of waiting – and walking – students saw their hard work come to fruition.  On Tuesday, June 24, the last day of school, Manor School Principal, Mr. McCarthy, remained taped to the wall for over an hour and a half, until well after dismissal at 3:00 PM, living up to his promise to the students. The “Walk to the Moon” challenge began as the Manor School’s activity of choice for the District’s annual wellness week, which kicks off each February.  Students, family members and staff members logged minutes, miles or steps on a weekly basis toward the goal of 234,000 miles – the distance from earth to the moon.
