Leaving Our Mark on the Community
with the Thumb Print Project
The Honeoye Falls-Lima-Mendon Assets
Committee will be participating in the Day of Caring on May 7,
2009. Students at HF-L will decorate planters and plant
flowers that will be placed around our school buildings and
community. The planters will be sponsored by local businesses,
clubs and organizations.
High School students will work with younger students to paint and
decorate the planters, and High School students and community
members will help with the planting. Once the planters are
distributed, it is up to the organizations and businesses to care
for their planters. Care instructions will be provided. Once
the planters are placed throughout the community, families will be
encouraged to participate in a “scavenger hunt,” to walk the streets
and identify the organizations that sponsored the planters. Prizes
will be given to a select number of winners.
The project encourages the development of intergenerational
relationships, and inspires youth to care for their community,
develop a sense of purpose and provide service to others. It
encourages families, students and staff to get out and be active,
and supports Village and Town initiatives, such as Twice is Nice and
Be Loyal/Buy Local, as it is great advertising.
If your organization is interested in participating in the Thumb
Print Project, contact Christine Gephart, Youth Services
Coordinator, at 624-7080 or Christine_Gephart@hflcsd.org
or complete
this form and send the completed form and payment by April 20,
2009.
