May 12, 2009 Board of Education Meeting Highlights
Below are highlights of what occurred at the May 12, 2009 Board
of Education meeting. Official minutes will be posted on the
District’s website upon approval at the subsequent Board of
Education meeting.
The Official Public Budget Hearing and Comments from Board
Candidates occurred. Laurene Hoffman and Hal Gaffin described
their background and interest in board service. Answers were
provided to audience members’ questions on candidate positions and
budget matters.
The Board approved tenure appointments, effective September 1,
2009, for 16 teachers and one administrator.
Brian Donohue and members of the Wellness Committee provided
information on many successful Wellness initiatives in the past
year. A May 7 Parent University workshop on the benefits of
good nutrition attracted strong interest from the community.
The Family Fun Night event continues to expand participation,
including involvement of high school students. The committee
will include initiatives relating to mental health in future
planning.
An installment purchase agreement with Monroe #1 BOCES was
approved for the procurement of technology equipment. The
agreement allows for the replacement of outdated computers at Manor
School, the reallocation of teacher laptops to High School laptop
carts and the upgrade of computers for the Project Lead the Way
pre-engineering program. The cost of the computers can be
deferred over three years as a result of the agreement.
The Superintendent’s Report included the following: 1) A senior
art display will be located at Pittsford Federal Credit Union during
the month of June. 2) ELA results for Grades 3-8 have been
issued. Passing rates have improved significantly.
Mastery rates will continue to be a focus. 3) Thirty
volunteers have signed up for the High School Graduation
Committee. An initial meeting will be held June 3.
4) New buses purchased in HF-L will have camera technology
that can photograph vehicles passing buses illegally. 5) A
senior, Kristina Chartrand, has been honored as regional Business
Education Student of the Year. 6) The Calendar Committee has
completed its meetings and will have a set of recommendations for
the Board and School Improvement Teams. Proposed calendars
through 2012 and ideas for maximizing student learning time were
considered.
