May 26, 2009 Board of Education Meeting
Highlights Below are highlights of what occurred at the May 12,
2009 Board of Education meeting. Official minutes will be
posted on the District’s website upon approval at the subsequent
Board of Education meeting. Michael Tarantelli and his advisor,
Mrs. Christine Preston, were present to be recognized by the Board
of Education. Michael won first place in the New York State
National History Day Competition and is advancing to the national
competition on June 14. Capital Project Update: The Board
was presented with an update on capital project progress.

Design and Municipal Solutions provided updated visual plans and
financial data for two successive capital projects ranging from 2011
through 2018 that could be financed through state aid and reserve
funds with no tax impact. Revisions to the Acceptable Use Policy
were approved. Phil Burrows, Deputy Superintendent, presented an
update on the work of the Diversity Committee. The Committee
has recommended individuals who exemplify respect for diversity for
recognition at the June 9 Board of Education meeting. The
Committee also noted that the District won national recognition for
Diversity Awareness in the form of the Magna Award. The
District has been asked to present a Diversity Workshop at the fall
2009 New York State School Boards Association Convention in New York
City. The Superintendent reported that two High School students
have received regional distinction: Olivia Graham was this
year’s Lilac Festival Queen and Jennifer Gay was recognized by
Monroe County Superintendents as the 2009 Outstanding Senior.
The Prom was a successful event. In follow up to a question at
the last board meeting, a report on Wellness Center participation
rates by population sector was provided. One of our community
members, Karen Waldron-Johnson, met with the Superintendent to
discuss projects and grant funding for green initiatives.
Finally, Dr. Mike O’Laughlin, District Superintendent for Monroe #2
BOCES, will be missed as we mourn his sudden passing. The monthly
food service report was approved and a discussion regarding an
increase in lunch prices of $.10 in 2009-10 was discussed. A
number of gifts were accepted and the Board approved the disposal of
used laptop bags and two pieces of unusable technology
equipment.
