June 9, 2009 Board of Education Meeting Highlights:
Below are the highlights of what occurred at the June 9, 2009 Board of Education meeting.  Official minutes will be posted on the District’s website upon approval at the subsequent Board of Education meeting.

A Diversity Awards Reception was held prior to the regular session board meeting, with special thanks given to recipients for exemplifying their commitment to diversity.

New Student Board Representative, William (Billy) Schell, an HF-L junior, was introduced and approved for a two year seat term.  Jyothi Purushotham, present representative graduates this year.

Capital Project Update:  Representatives from SEI Design, Campus Construction and Municipal Solutions provided the board a presentation of the one-phase versus two-phase options for the district’s next capital project. The board expects to make a decision on option choice at their next BOE meeting on June 23, 2009.

The board conducted their first reading of the Code of Conduct Policy for 2009-10 school year. The committee made one minor addition under Student Responsibilities with regard to reporting violations.  The committee put most of its energy into a revision of the abridged version of the code, including positive behavioral interventions and creating a more user friendly document.

The Superintendent reported on recommendations made by the Calendar Committee.  Included was a recommendation to eliminate half-days in future calendars, whenever possible.  Suggestions on increasing quality learning time will be shared with each building School Improvement Team.  Mr. Roth also reported on the formation of a Graduation Committee.  The committee is surveying student and parent interest in modifications to aspects of the ceremony as well as options for venue. 
 
The board approved an increase in lunch prices of $.10 in 2009-10, as discussed at their meeting on May 26th.
