Graduation 2010 Location Decided
At its meeting on October 27, 2009, the Board of Education
of Honeoye Falls-Lima unanimously approved the recommendations of a
High School committee that has been examining graduation options
since the spring of 2009. The High School Principal,
David Roth, and committee members, Linda Izzo and Meg Segrue, had
previously responded to the board’s questions regarding the
committee’s report at the board meeting on October 13, 2009.
The report recommended that: the location of the 2010 graduation be
held at CMAC (Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center), an
on-site event be held before graduation, busing be provided and an
evaluation be conducted after the event.
A large number of community members were on hand to address
the board both for and against the move. Many speakers
referenced an attachment to their school and a desire to have a
memorable graduation ceremony. Those opposed to the
committee’s recommendation questioned whether the move was necessary
and emphasized a need to maintain tradition. Those in support
of the recommendation expressed an interest in safely and
comfortably including all guests invited to the event and referenced
inclement weather and cost as additional factors.
Administration presented an analysis of communication and
opportunities for input that occurred throughout the committee
process. An opinion poll of seniors and their parents resulted
in a response rate in favor of a move to CMAC of 77% and 75%,
respectively. An online website survey of the general
community resulted in a 60% response rate in favor of the
move. An administrative analysis was also presented of 15
options to maintain the ceremony on site and the reasons these
options were rejected. A High School pre-engineering student
presented schematics of alternative front lawn arrangements and
concluded that they created increased visibility problems.

In other business at the same meeting, the Board received
accolades and tokens of appreciation from PTA and administration in
honor of Board Recognition Week. They approved a Red Ribbon
Week proclamation, a quarterly food service report, contracts for
the Internal Auditor and Construction Management services and budget
transfers over $2,000. Many of the transfers were as a result
of special accounting procedures necessary to track new federal
stimulus funds.
