Re: Capital Project Receives Thumbs Up from HF-L Voters
PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Capital Project Receives Thumbs Up from HF-L Voters

On December 8, voters in the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District approved a capital improvement project at a cost of $32, 364,000 by a vote of 706 (yes) to 418 (no).  The project is being funded through $29,572,000 in state building aid and $2,792,000 from the Capital reserve Fund with no local tax impact. The project will address: renovations and infrastructure improvements at all buildings, site work to improve safety and traffic flow, the addition of space for the Arts at the Middle School, athletic field upgrades and additions, the introduction of solar panels and other energy efficiencies, redesign of science and technology classrooms and the purchase of related equipment and furniture.   The proposition also included the purchase of two land parcels adjacent to the main campus.
The capital project represents Phase I of a two-phase plan to implement long-range facilities and site improvements in the decade ahead.  The plan was developed over the past two years with the help of a 38-member Master Facilities Committee comprised of community members, staff, consultants and board members.  The second phase, anticipated for community approval in 2014, will involve further upgrades, the addition of a wing at Lima Primary to restructure a Grades K -2 configuration, expansion of cafeteria and main office relocation at the High School, and the consolidation of support service with transportation at the Quaker Meeting House Road facility.
Superintendent Michelle Kavanaugh credited the diligent study of the Committee and the oversight of the Board of Education.  She stated, “The vision for the long-range plan is taking shape as the first phase can now move forward.  Had it not been for the broad input and careful deliberation of the Master Facilities Committee in their careful planning and the stewardship of the Board of Education, we would not be at this exciting juncture today.”
Among the initial items to be addressed, it is anticipated that the focus will be on roofing and other upgrades during the summer of 2010.
