Meeting Notes
4/10/08


• Minutes from the last meeting and the agenda for today’s meeting were reviewed.

• Dr. Kavanaugh, Superintendent of Schools, and Jerry Bennett, community member, reviewed the progress made by the Risky Behavior Task Force.  The Task Force is developing messages.

• A collection of school supplies for inner city schools was a suggestion for a service project we can take on for the United Way Day of Caring, which will be held on 5/8/08.  We are also working with the folks from the Relay for Life to see how we could include them in our Day of Caring efforts.  The T-Totes project brought to the Assets Committee by Mrs. Kissack is a recommendation for a Day of Caring service project.  A purple theme in honor of the Relay for Life for the Volunteer Luncheon was suggested.

• Brian Donohue, Director of Athletics, reviewed Bob Bigelow’s presentation on youth sports participation.  Bob’s message was in regard to long and short term development in youth sports, ensuring that all kids are given a chance and keeping the focus on enjoyment and interest being the driving factors in youth’s participation in sports and activities.  Bob stressed the importance of engaging young people in lifelong sports and activities and sustaining their interest in sports and activities.

• The Greater Rochester Health Foundation grant has been written and we are waiting results to improve health and wellness activities in our school community.  A grant has also been written that would permit us to make improvements at the Manor Cafeteria. 

• Quinn gave an update on efforts to host a skateboarding demo.  Quinn has planned for and taken all necessary steps (waivers, etc.) for a skateboarding demo to be held at the Middle School.  A PTA grant will be requested.  Quinn hopes the event will take place in late May.

• Community Sharing – The next Steering Committee meeting for the Mendon Library Project will be held on 4/22 7 PM at the Town Hall.

• On May 6, an event will be held for youth from various assets groups around the county at Total Sports Experience on Elmgrove Rd.

• The agenda was set for the next meeting on 5/15/08.
