How to Become Involved in Our Schools

The community is an active partner in the Honeoye Falls-Lima School District's educational program. District residents play an integral part in program budget design and strategic planning. They serve on a number of building improvement and district-wide committees. Comprehensive and ongoing solicitation and analysis of feedback from District residents, parents, students, and staff drive District efforts toward continuous improvement.

Below are some ways that parents and community residents can participate in our schools:

Facilities Planning:  Volunteer on our Long Range Facilities Planning Committee.  Contact the Office of the Superintendent of Schools if you are interested in participating at 624-7010.

Community Reads:  Help plan our second annual community reads program.  Contact Molly Brazak at mbrazak@yahoo.com.

Wellness Committee:  Help us promote health, wellness and nutrition in our schools and community.  Contact Brian Donohue, Athletic Director, at 624-7070 or brian_donohue@hflcsd.org.

Diversity Committee:  Join us in our efforts to increase understanding of diversity in all of its various dimensions.  Contact Deputy Superintendent Phil Burrows at 624-7016 or philip_burrows@hflcsd.org.

Community Youth Court:  Have experience working in the judicial system?  Volunteer to work with our high school students as they implement our new Community Youth Court program.  Contact Brad Templeton at brad_templeton@hflcsd.org

Teaching, Learning and Technology Committee: The Teaching, Learning and Technology Committee includes PTA and community representation. The committee plans for the instructional use of technology in our schools. To participate on the Teaching, Learning and Technology Committee, please contact  Renee Williams  at (585) 624-7015.

Program Budget Advisory Council:   The Program Budget Advisory Council welcomes community members to participate in its review of program and budget proposals from all of the HF-L schools and departments. The Program Budget Advisory Council is made up of community members and members of the Board of Education. It serves as an advisory group to our schools and the Board of Education by offering feedback to departments about school program and budget proposals. Community members interested in serving on the Program Budget Advisory Council complete an application for membership and are appointed by the Board of Education. To obtain an application, please contact Phil Burrows , Deputy Superintedent, at 624-7016.

Decision Input Units:   Members of Decision Input Units plan the instructional program and services offered to HF-L students. They review background information and budget materials and develop new budget proposals for District programs with HF-L administrators, staff and faculty. There are eight DIU sites in which District residents can participate: K-5, Middle School, High School, Buildings & Grounds, Transportation, K-12 Music, Health/Physical Education/Interscholastic Athletics and Central Office.  To participate in any of the Decision Input Units, contact Phil Burrows , Deputy Superintedent, at 624-7016.

Strategic Implementation Group:   Parents and community residents are active partners in goal setting and long and short term planning for the District.  The District's strategic plan includes the District's vision and mission statements, as well as strategic intents and exit standards, which set goals for student achievement.  The District Strategic Implementation Group (SIG) meets annually to review and update the strategic plan.  To participate in strategic planning, contact Phil Burrows  at (585) 624-7016.

Key Communicators: Key members of our community, such as business owners, educators, local government officials, members of community groups and local educators, are invited to join the District's administration to discuss programs, events, activities and issues affecting the school district.  Each meeting allows ample opportunity to provide the District with feedback about our schools.  Key Communicator meetings are open to the public.  For more information about Key Communicators, please contact  Allison Armstrong, Communication Specialist , at (585) 624-7019.

School Improvement Teams: Parents and community members are important representatives on School Improvement Teams, which analyze the school's performance in relation to the Strategic Plan, establish annual goals to be accomplished by the school, communicate with and educate staff members in the District Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plan. To participate on School Improvement Teams, please contact the building principal of the building you are interested in working with.

Volunteers in our Schools: There are many ways that parents and community members can participate in our schools. Find the best way to share your skills and knowledge with our students by contacting the building principal of the building you are interested in volunteering in.
