Points of Cougar Pride
Academics
95% of our graduates earned a Regents diploma in June
2007. 94% of the members of the class of 2007 are attending
college. The number of students who took Advanced Placement exams was
the highest ever, with 213 students taking 442 exams. 88% scored at the
mastery level. 69 students were inducted into the National Honor
Society this year. 95 students were commended as AP Scholars this
year. 176 students are participating in career
internships. Our District outranked both similar schools and schools
throughout the State on the NY State Report Card. In 2007, HF-L
graduates earned scholarships totaling more than half a million dollars.
Athletics Seven of our Varsity teams were crowned Section V Champs
last year. Three Varsity teams were named New York State
Champs. Twenty of our Varsity teams were named New York State Team
Scholars for having an academic average of over 90%. Two coaches were
honored with the prestigious Coach of the Year award. HF-L received a
silver level New York Healthy STARS Award for its efforts in promoting health
and wellness in our schools and community. HF-L was one of just three
school districts in the state to receive the New York State Good Sports Award
this year.
The Arts
The accomplishments of art and music students include awards
at: The Scholastic Art Show, including a National Gold Key last
year The Virginia Beach Chorus/Band Competition The Young
Filmmakers Festival, including the Best of the Fest Award The
Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival. Last year marked our Jazz Ensembles
fourth trip to this prestigious event.
