Attendance

The State Education Law provides that all children between the ages of 6 and 16 in proper physical and mental condition shall attend school while it is in session. To be eligible for Kindergarten a child must be five (5) years old on or before December 1 of the school year for which he/she is being registered and turn six (6) years old after December of that same school year. Under a new compulsory education law children who turn six after December 1st of the school year are required to attend school at the start of classes in September. A birth certificate or other legal proof will be copied and placed in each student's cumulative folder.

Legal Absences are:

(1) Sickness
(2) Sickness or death in family
(3) Impassable roads or weather
(4) Religious observation
(5) Quarantine
(6) Required to be in court
(7) Music lessons
(8) Remedial health treatment
(9) Take Your Child To Work Day

Any absence due to reasons other than the above is unexcused. All children absent from school must upon their return furnish school authorities with a written excuse stating the reasons for their absences. Excuses must be dated and signed by the child's parent or guardian.

If your child is absent from school due to illness, a phone call to the school office in the morning is appreciated (624-7140). If you are unable to make the call, the school secretary will probably call you. When your child returns to school, please give him/her a note from you stating the reason for the absence.

Excusing Children

If a parent wants a child excused during the day, they must send a written request from home. Parents must come to the main office to sign children out.
