Attendance
The State Education Law provides that all children between
the ages of 6 and 16 in proper physical and mental condition
shall attend school while it is in session. To be eligible
for Kindergarten a child must be five (5) years old on or
before December 1 of the school year for which he/she is being
registered and turn six (6) years old after December of that
same school year. Under a new compulsory education law children
who turn six after December 1st of the school year are required
to attend school at the start of classes in September. A birth
certificate or other legal proof will be copied and placed
in each student's cumulative folder.
Legal Absences are:
(1) Sickness
(2) Sickness or death in family
(3) Impassable roads or weather
(4) Religious observation
(5) Quarantine
(6) Required to be in court
(7) Music lessons
(8) Remedial health treatment
(9) Take Your Child To Work Day
Any absence due to reasons other than the above is unexcused.
All children absent from school must upon their return furnish
school authorities with a written excuse stating the reasons
for their absences. Excuses must be dated and signed by
the child's parent or guardian.
If your child is absent from school due to illness, a
phone call to the school office in the morning is appreciated
(624-7140). If you are unable to make the call, the school secretary will
probably call you. When your child returns to school, please
give him/her a note from you stating the reason for the
absence.
Excusing Children
If a parent wants a child excused during the day, they must
send a written request from home. Parents must come to the
main office to sign children out.
Excusing Children
Notice of emergency school closing (due to storms) will
be given over WHAM between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 7:30
a.m.
