ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET VOTE

MAY 15, 2007

PROPOSITION #1-PROPOSED BUDGET

RESOLVED, that the proposed budget of $37,266,044 for 2007-08 be approved and that the Board of Education be authorized to purchase four (4) 66-passenger, and one (1) 20 passenger vehicles, and expend therefore a sum not to exceed $365,000 or so much thereof as necessary, which shall be raised by tax on the taxable property of the district, to be collected in annual installments, and to finance all or part of the cost thereof by bonds or notes issued in accordance with the Education Law and the Local Finance Law or by an installment purchase contract in accordance with the General Municipal Law.

What does this proposition mean? If the voters approve the proposition, the District will be able to raise funds to spend up to $37,266,044 for the education of our students in the 2007-08 school year. The proposition would also allow the District to finance $365,000 for the purchase of school buses, to continue with our school bus replacement schedule.

PROPOSITION #2—CAPITAL PROJECT

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education is hereby authorized to undertake certain capital improvements consisting of reconstruction and renovation of the school buildings, including the acquisition of original, equipment, furnishings and apparatus required for such buildings and including incidental site work in connection therewith, and to expend for such purposes an estimated maximum aggregate sum of $12,268,770; and that the estimated maximum aggregate sum be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments with such tax to be partially offset by State building aid available for such purposes; and to appropriate and expend from the existing building capital reserve fund up to $600,000 for such costs; and in anticipation of such tax, the debt obligations of the School District be issued as may be necessary not to exceed such estimated aggregate maximum sum.

What does this proposition mean?  If the voters approve the proposition, the District will be able to spend up to $12,268,770 to be used to complete building and maintenance repair needs throughout our buildings and grounds.  Due to the availability of building aid and State allocated EXCEL aid and the use of reserve funds, this project would have no impact on tax bills.

PROPOSITION #3—CAPITAL PROJECT

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education is hereby authorized to undertake certain capital improvements consisting of reconstruction and renovation of the Buildings and Grounds operations building, particularly the acquisition and installation of a new boiler for such building, and to expend for such purposes an estimated maximum aggregate sum of $128,855; and that the estimated maximum aggregate sum of $128,855 be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments; and to appropriate and expend from the existing building capital reserve fund up to $128,855 for such costs; and in anticipation of such tax, that debt obligations of the School District be issued as may be necessary not to exceed such estimated aggregate maximum sum.

What does this proposition mean?  If the voters approve the proposition, the District will be able to spend up to $128,855 to be used to replace the boiler in the Buildings and Grounds Department.  Because capital reserve funds will be used, this project would have no impact on tax bills.
