SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET
VOTE
May 20 , 2008
State laws dictate the wording of the proposition being presented to the
voters. Listed below is the actual text that you will see in the voting booth
followed by a brief explanation of what the voters will be voting on:
PROPOSITION #1-PROPOSED BUDGET
RESOLVED that the proposed $38,675,847 budget for 2008-09 be approved and that the Board of Education be authorized to purchase two (2)
66-passenger, three (3) 20-passenger vehicles, and one (1) 7-passenger vehicle, and expend therefore a sum not
to exceed $325,000 or so much thereof as necessary, which shall be raised by
tax on the taxable property of the district, and to finance all or part of the cost thereof by bonds or notes
issued in accordance with the Education Law and the Local Finance Law or by an installment purchase contract in accordance with
the General Municipal Law.
What does this proposition mean? If the voters approve the
proposition, the District will be able to raise funds to spend up to $38,675,847
for the education of our students in the 2008-09 school year. The proposition would
also allow the District to borrow an additional $325,000 for the purchase of
school buses, to continue with our school bus replacement schedule. The proposition allows the District to
borrow money to make that purchase.
