PTA Focus Areas

The District PTA has identified three focus areas. They are:

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: A student’s health and well being have a significant effect on his or her academic achievement. There are four (4) factors that affect children’s heath, well being and learning: food and nutrition, physical activity, environmental health and school safety. Parents and PTAs play an important role in ensuring that their children are healthy enough to learn and that the school environment is a safe and nurturing place for students to succeed.

Asset Building: Assets are positive qualities valued in all people. The Search Institute, Minneapolis, MN has identified 40 development assets that are important building blocks for an individual's self esteem and essential to positive adult development. When youths possess many of the 40 developmental assets, they are less likely to participate in risky behaviors, such as: drug or alcohol abuse, early sexual activity, and violent or criminal behaviors. Those with many asset characteristics experience high levels of school successes are involved in their community lead healthy lifestyles and encourage others to do the same.

Targeting Parent Involvement in Education: Parent involvement in a child’s education is a major factor in the child’s academic success. Studies show that the more involved a parent is in his or her child’s education, the more successful the child will be. This happens regardless of the parent’s income, education, or race. Further research shows that students with involved parents enjoy substantial advantages in education. In addition, teens with involved parents tend to stay in school longer and have fewer behavior problems while they are there.

Mission Statement

The Honeoye Falls Lima PTA is dedicated to understanding, representing and advocating for parents, students and teachers within our school district and promoting partnerships with the Board of Education and District Administration that enhance this district’s ability to provide a successful education for all students within a safe and nurturing environment.

Goals

• Work in partnership with the HF-L Central School District to set goals that reflect community expectations and priorities.
• Support the HF-L Central School District instructional program to meet the needs of each student through educational programs and fundraising as needed.
• Provide parent education programs that increase understanding of the educational, developmental, and social issues that affect our children.
• Expand parents' involvement in the HF-L Central School District.
