2019-20 School Calendars

You should have received a printed copy of the 2019-20 school calendar, which was sent home with your youngest child on the first day of school. If you did not receive a calendar, please contact the main office of your youngest child's school building and request a copy.

Join us for Fall Weekend 2019 (October 4th-6th)

Be sure to join us on Saturday, October 5th for the biggest day of Fall Weekend! Plan to watch our annual Fall Weekend Parade at 12:30 p.m. and enjoy the "Monumental Moments" themed floats. The Homecoming Varsity Football game will follow the parade. After the game, enjoy refreshments, music, and get to know our inductees at the Hall of Fame Reception in the High School Cafeteria immediately following the football game.

Additionally, there will be many athletic events scheduled for the weekend and the Youth Trophy Cup Run on Sunday, October 6th.

CougarTech Open House

CougarTech Open House - Wed. Sept. 18th, 7:00 pm at the High School (shop door) High School students, parents of students, and community members wishing to support youth STEM programs should come see what we are all about! Members learn and contribute in a wide variety of areas including both technical and non-technical; project planning, design process, CAD, mechanical, electrical, 3D printing, programming, game strategy, business planning, budgeting, marketing, graphic design and most importantly leadership and teamwork!!! Although CougarTech meets year-round, the team is focused on the FIRST Robotics Competition that is announced in January and competitions at RIT and Cleveland in March. 

Digital Citizenship Committee Newsletter - September 2019

Welcome Back! 
Did you know that the Digital Citizenship Committee sends out community newsletters? Did you even know it existed?? The Digital Citizenship Committee is a team of teachers, administrators, counselors, librarians, and other staff members at HF-L who are passionate about helping our students become respectful, responsible, and safe digital citizens. The committee was created in response to the growing use of technology both in our schools and in our personal lives. Last year, we worked hard to assess student needs, to create and share learning targets with teachers, and to assist in the implementation of a digital citizenship curriculum. This month's community newsletter describes the committee, shows the learning targets by building, and has a special "Faculty Feature." HF-L Education Fund First Annual Restaurant Week

Please join the HFL Education Fund for our FIRST ANNUAL Restaurant Week, September 30th - October 6th (Fall week). Several very generous local businesses have agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds during the week to the Education Fund! Attached is a poster with more information and participating businesses! For more information please contact Lauri Hofmann at The HFL Education Fund has awarded more than $20,000 in grants since its founding for programs such as an indoor sustainability garden at the High School library, Syllaboard purchases to aid reading and writing among second graders, and Habits of Mind accreditation.

HF-L Seeking PBAC Volunteers

As part of HF-L's 2020-2021 budget process, the District is seeking volunteers to be part of the Public Budget Advisory Committee. Each school building and department will present their instructional goals and budget priorities during a series of six meetings. At the end of the presentations, the PBAC will share their reflections and the priorities they believe are the most important with the Board of Education for the development of the final budget. The PBAC is a volunteer committee of community members that will help define the District's 2020-2021 budget priorities. Members attend six meetings from January to March. HF-L employees who live in the District are encouraged to join. For more information, contact Bruce Capron at

HF-L Seeking Capital Project Committee Volunteers

The Superintendent recommends forming a 2019 Capital Project Committee to define HF-L’s next capital project. This committee would initially focus on the items dropped from the current project, which includes multiple items (e.g. Discover Lab, Science Room renovations) at the Middle School. The preliminary vision for this work is to create a project in the range of $6 million to $12 million, which could be placed in front of the voters as early as December of 2019. If you are interested in serving on this committee, email with your interest.  A tentative calendar for this committee’s work is:

Great Pumpkin Fall Festival

Do your kids love carnival rides, bounces houses, and candy? Then come on out to the Great Pumpkin Fall Festival on September 21st from 3:30-7: 30 pm. Admission, rides, and games are all FREE!!! There will be a pie-eating contest and dunking booth to raise money for the Lima Volunteer Fire Department, a variety of food vendors, and a preschool area! The festival is hosted at Elim Gospel Church, 1679 Dalton Road, Lima NY. Book Sale

The Friends of Lima Public Library are holding their fall book sale on Friday, September 27th from 1 pm to 5 pm and Saturday, September 28th from 9 am to 1 pm. The book sale takes place at the Friends Book Barns in the parking lot of the Lima Public Library. President Barb Brenner reminds everyone to bring a grocery bag for your books ($3 for a bag of books) and remember if it is raining we can not have a book sale.
