Network, Health, & Safety Capital Project

At their Tuesday, October 8, 2013 meeting the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School Board of Education approved resolutions to seek voter approval of a Network, Health, and Safety Capital Project that will upgrade the District's network to support instruction, replace obsolete kitchen equipment in the cafeterias, and enhance building security district-wide.

The project will cost $3,992,404 with no impact on local property taxes. The project will be funded through $2,992,404 in building aid from the State and $1,000,000 from the District's strategic capital reserves, which was previously approved by the voters. The public budget hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 3 at 7 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria. The capital project vote will be held on December 10, 2013, in the High School Lobby (83 East Street) from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The general scope of the Network, Health, and Safety Capital Project is as follows:

  • Network - This project includes a major upgrade of the District's computer network and wireless connectivity. The improved network will provide wireless network access for all students and faculty to simultaneously access our network more efficiently during their instructional time as the effective integration of technology impacts our students' achievement in content area learning, promotes higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills, and prepares students for the workforce.. to support best practice use of blending technology into everyday student learning. This network upgrade will ensure the District to meet upcoming requirements from the state that students take state examinations online. The network upgrade will also support a number of the safety improvements noted below.

  • Health - As part of this project, the District will replace several pieces of kitchen equipment that was purchased over 25 years ago as part of a previous capital project and are well past their useful life span. The majority of these appliances either cannot be repaired or require excessive costs to keep them running. Replacement of these appliances is critical to ensuring that the Food Service department is able to meet all food safety standards as they prepare and serve meals. Additionally, the District's Central Kitchen refrigeration plants, which are critical to preparing healthy meals for our students and preserving our investment in the produce and perishables stored on campus, will be upgraded. These improvements will provide additional energy savings and greater reliability

  • Safety - Safety in school districts today is a delicate balance between providing a welcoming environment for our students and community, while simultaneously ensuring student safety and security. The final component of this project will enable the District to enhance the security of all building entrances and access points throughout the District. The project will also include the installation of up-to-date cameras, exterior lighting, and motion sensors in strategic locations at all of our buildings. All of the interior classroom doors in the District will be updated to enable them to be quickly closed and locked, as required by our District Safety Plan. Additionally, backup electrical generators to provide vital heat, light, and communications during emergencies will be installed. These generators will also allow the District to pump fuel for our buses, as well as village and town vehicles during emergency power outages.

More information about the project will be released throughout October and November. Please contact Rhonda Schaefer with questions at 624-7010 or Rhonda_Schaefer@hflcsd.org.
