Health Notice: Communicable Skin Infection at HF-L High School

A member of the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School community has been diagnosed with a communicable skin infection. In accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health, HF-L is sharing this information so families and staff can remain informed and know what symptoms to watch for.

The risk to students and staff is generally low. Awareness and prompt attention to possible symptoms can help reduce the spread of infection.

What to Watch For
Possible symptoms include:

• Red, swollen or painful bumps or sores on the skin
• Warmth, drainage or pus at the site of a wound
• Fever accompanying a skin infection

What You Can Do
Families and students can help prevent the spread of skin infections by:

• Checking skin regularly, especially areas covered by athletic clothing or sports equipment
• Keeping cuts, scrapes and wounds clean and covered until fully healed
• Not sharing towels, razors, uniforms, clothing or other personal items
• Practicing good hygiene

If symptoms develop, contact a health care provider promptly.

HF-L High School is taking precautions to help reduce the potential spread of infection. Shared equipment, locker rooms, and frequently touched surfaces are being cleaned and disinfected. Students are also being reminded about proper hygiene before and after practices and games.
The district is working closely with the local health department and will continue to monitor the situation.
